We stayed local for our latest trip. And I mean local, as its just around the corner from our house. We visited the Christmas Farm, located in Cefn-Y-Bedd, Wrexham.
The Christmas farm pops up annually (obviously) and puts on a small event for families to enjoy. It’s not the only event they host through the year, they also host a Halloween event with pumpkin picking too, so worth keeping an eye on if you’re in the local area.
Entry Cost
To enter the Christmas Farm, the cost is £4 per person. This will also give you a candy cane and a small wooden decoration to put on the wishing trees. Car parking is also free. It’s only a small event and parking spaces are limited, but they have opened a second spot if the main area is full.
What’s inside the Christmas Farm?
Well, inside they have a few areas and attractions to discover:
Reindeer Feeding
The farm has 16 reindeer living there. At the back of the farm is a sheltered area along the fence where you can meet some of the reindeer and even feed them, There’s a member of staff handing out a few morsels of food for the kids to hold out for the reindeer. On our visit, there were a few larger reindeer coming over to say hi and a few baby ones too! The one that Elliott fed was named Godzilla the Third. Elliott loves Godzilla so this pleased him no end. The reindeer are quite friendly and don’t bite.
Face Painting
There was a small face painting hut with a selection of festive options. Our kids aren’t usually ones to go for face paints, but for once Elliott really wanted to today, and once he’d spotted a Grinch option, he just had to! Face painting was a bargain at £3.
Character Meet
The Christmas Farm had a small grotto at the back where you could take a picture with… an abominable snowman! No Santa today, just a fun looking yeti. Naturally, we had to jump in for a picture!
Wishing Trees
Last time we visited there was just one or two trees in a hut that you could write on your decoration and add to the tree. This year, you could head through the decorated archway to Reindeer St, and inside there were rows of trees either side, covered in small wooden ornaments, inscribed with children’s wishes. Grab a pen, write your wish and add it on!
Marshmallow Toasting
For £2, you can get a marshmallow toasting stick from the snack hut with one large and 2 medium marshmallows on. Take them over to the fire and melt them to your hearts content. The kids like theirs slightly charred and gooey!
Snack Hut
As you enter, there is a snack hut selling hot chocolate, tea and coffee, cold drinks, marshmallows, cookies and shortbreads, muffins and chocolate lollies. Cookies started at 50p, lollies £1.50. Hot drinks were £2-2.50, cold drinks £1. You could pick up toasting marshmallows here for £2. The chocolate chip shortbreads were lovely!
Photo Ops & Christmas Trees
Dotted around were plenty of places for a fun photo. There were toy soldiers at the base of a giant tree, some large Christmas presents, plenty of trees around, nutcracker statues and some of those pictures with cut out faces that you can put your face in and be Santa or an elf. They also have some fun wooden reindeer models, topped with real reindeer antlers.
Its a Christmas Farm, so you need snow in your pictures, and they delivered. Over the yeti grotto was a snow machine intermittently blasting snow over the screaming kids, and next to the wishing tree tunnel was a bubble machine.
Is the Christmas Farm Worth A Visit?
It’s a fun morning out if you’re in the Wrexham area. It’s not a full day thing, but definitely worth an hour or two of your day. Grab a hot chocolate, get your face painted, toast some marshmallows and feed the reindeer: it’s a pretty good day out for young children.
It can get busy near the snack hut and by the reindeers, so if you’re not a fan of small crowded areas, be warned, but there are places you can stand away from the throng of people if you need to take 5. There’s not much in the way of seating. I think I saw one bench, which was right under the snow machine so avoid unless you want to be covered in fake snow, but there are a few large tables for you to stand around and rest your drinks.
Oh and they also sell real Christmas trees if you need one!
